How do you know if your 3Ds Max model is ready for VR? If you’re a CGI artist, you will know it can be hard to tell if your scenes will translate perfectly into a VR experience, especially if you’re not used to working with VR. That’s where our 3Ds Max plugin comes in.
It allows you to preview what your model will look like with a few clicks. You can spot any potential problems and fix them before EnvisionVR turns your model into a 1:1 scale Virtual Experience. In this article, we’ll talk about how to use the plugin and how you can start preparing your models for virtual reality.
What’s the plugin is for?
When working with virtual reality, the devil is in the details. From our previous projects with CGI firms, we noticed that it was hard for our partners to review the model within 3ds max and a lot of changes were having to be made after the model had been converted into a VR and AR experience. That’s where the plugin comes in.
EnvisionVR’s 3ds max plugin allows you to preview your scene in VR before sending it to us for conversion. This way, you can catch any problems with the model and make changes accordingly. The plugin also allows you to share your scene with a client for revisions and approval before conversion. That way, all changes are made at this stage and there are no surprises down the road. How to install the plugin
How it works
To review your scene and preview what it will look like in VR, our 3ds max plugin allows you to place cameras at different locations in the model and render 360 images. You can choose your render quality when preparing to export, if it’s your first preview you can choose 1k for less than 1min export. To share with your clients for review, we recommend a higher render quality.
Once the images have rendered, you can choose to review the scene by each 360 image or as a web-hosted 360 tour of the entire model. This web-hosted tour can also be used on your client’s website. The final export of the tour from the plugin provides you with an embeddable link.
What’s next?
Once your model has been reviewed and approved by the client, you can package and send all your files to EnvisionVR. Next time you see your model, it will be on the EnvisionVR platform and you will be able to walk through it in 1:1 scale using a mobile phone, tablet or VR headset. All that’s left to do at this stage is to check that the experience matches your 360 images and you can share it with your client. Virtual experiences of your model are just another way of adding value to your client’s project.
If you’re working with virtual reality, or want to and don’t know where to begin, be sure to check out our 3ds max plugin. Modelling for VR and reviewing your scenes has never been easier. It’ll save you a lot of headaches in the long run!
